The Hellenic Association Of Antiquarians and Art Dealers has produced this guide which is addressed to antiquarians, decorators and generally all art-lovers, in order to help them buy, sell and evaluate objects of art available in Greece. The Association was founded in 1930 and draws its membership from all parts of the country. The members of the Association trade in Greek and foreign objects of art with a sense of responsibility reflected in the fairness of pricing. This certainly enables collectors to enrich their collections and art lovers to acquire decorative items for their homes. The quality and authenticity of objects sold by art dealers, members of the Association, is thus guaranteed. Other assets one has in buying from member-dealers is that in the very rare case of dispute or disagreement, a committee appointed by the Association will serve as the arbitrator protecting and safeguarding the legal rights of both parties. The code of ethics is devoutly observed by member-dealers in all transactions; the byuer may thus have full confidence in them. With the opportunity of the publishing of this present guide, which hopefully may prove of use to buyers, it is brought to their attention that special permission by the Archaeological Service is required for the exportation of icons and objects of archaeological value. |
